The Opium war/ The Angelo-Chinese War
CONFLICT: The Manchu emperors expanded their powers throughout Asia. They began supplying opium to different countries until everyone used opium for different reasons. The British continued trafficking heavy imports of opium and China within the 1830's. In 1839, China enforced its prohibitions on the importation of opium by destroying at Canton, a large quantity of opium taken from British merchants, but the opium trade still flourished. Other countries profited from Chinese addiction though. The British sent their troops to China and war began. In 1842 China and Great Britain agreed to the treaty of Nanjing to stop the conflict between the two countries about drug control.
