Mary Wollstonecraft, born in Spitalfields, London at April 27,1759, was a writer with much intellect. She was the second to six children to be born. Her father's name is Edward John Wollstonecraft. He was a family despot who bullied his own wife. Mary's mothers name was Elizabeth Dixon. She fell into the state of a wearied servitude. Her father spent fortunes and inherited in his unsuccessful ventures of farming in which it took the family to six different locations throughout Britain by 1780. Mary's mother then died around that year. At the age of nineteen, Mary went out to become her own person. In 1783, Mary helped her sister, Eliza, escaped a horrible marriage from her abusive husband by hiding her until a legal separation was published.The two sisters instituted a school at Newington Green in Islington, London. Mary wrote Thoughts on the Education of Daughters: With Reflections on Female Conduct, in the More Important Duties of Life (1787). In 1787, Mary settled in George Street, London, she settled herself to take up literary career. In 1788,Mary became a translator and literary advisor for Joseph Johnson, the publisher of many radical texts. With this, she became to be accepted among the most advanced person of London intellectual and radical thought.In 1790, Mary produced a response called Vindication of the Rights of Man. It was responded from Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France. She was mad that the man who defended the American colonies assaulted the sacred revolution and libel Richard, a close friend of Mary. IN 1792, Mary published Vindication on the Rights of Woman in which advocates equality of the sexes. It also is the main doctrine of the woman's movement in the process made her both famous and infamous of her time. Mary met a character named Captain Gilbert Imlay the author of The Western Territory of North America (1792). Mary agreed to marry him and at 2794, she bore him a daughter named Fanny. In November of 1795, Imlay deserted Mary. Mary then recovered and went to live with William Godwin at the home of Joseph Johnson in 1791. In August, Mary had a daughter named May(who later became to to known as Shelly's wife), was born. On September 10th, Mary Wollstonecraft died.
